Newborn Son! {Newborn Lifestyle Photography} Marin, Napa, Sonoma County Lifestyle & Wedding Photographer...Shelley Hohe

It seems like just yesterday my husband and I met this beautiful couple as we photographed their engagement and wedding.  When I found out that they were expecting and wanted me to photograph their newborn baby, I was so honored!  The exciting part is they decided to wait till the arrival of their baby to find out that they were indeed blessed with a newborn son.

After their son was born I headed up to their home to photograph their new little family. I decided to  use their room as the backdrop for the fact it looked so nice and the light streaming through the window was just stunning!  There is something that I love so much about using natural settings like a bedroom or a nursery…I feel that I am able to capture genuine emotions as the 3 of them connect in these photos.

They are such a sweet and beautiful family!  I am honored to share these photos of our clients that we are blessed to now call our friends!!

Birds and Butterflies {taking the time to sit and listen} Marin, Napa, Sonoma County Engagement & Wedding Photographer...Shelley Hohe

A little over a week ago my grandma went home to be with the Lord.   My grandma was 97 and lived a very full life…she would always say "I have had a wonderful life".  She went so peacefully on a beautiful spring day as the flowers were blooming, the birds were singing and the sun was shining.  I remember my mom was telling me that Grandma was like a caterpillar as she was nearing the end of her life and that soon she would be like a beautiful butterfly.  Ever since she told me that I have been seeing and hearing about butterflies everywhere!  I believe God is sending us special message that my grandma is at peace with Him!

With all this I am reminded that if we really take the time to sit and listen, we can here God speak to us. Whether it's through the whistling of the wind, the singing of birds or the the sound of butterflies fluttering their wings.  This past week I have been sitting in my quiet place as I have been dealing with the loss of my grandma and by doing this I know I am not alone!  God is with me and my family letting us know He is right beside us.

Below is a photo I took of a butterfly a few years back and I was inspired to write a little poem about the way I was feeling.  I also love the quote I type out on the top of the image.  I found this quote online and it reminded me of what my mom was saying about my grandma…

Missing Grandma {little over a week ago} Marin, Napa, Sonoma County Engagement & Wedding Photographer...Shelley Hohe

I can't believe it was just a little over a week ago that I was holding my grandma's hand, kissing her forehead and whispering in her ear as she was nearing the end of her life on this earth.  I can't believe it was a little over a week ago that she went home to be with the Lord and my grandpa.   My family all knew this time would come and come soon being that she was 97…but the pain and grieving someone you love is so much harder than I anticipated.

The reason it is so hard is for the fact we were all so blessed by here presence in our lives for so many years.  Growing up we lived just a few minutes from my grandparents which resulted in many weekends spending the night,  many holidays baking cookies, many trips to feed the ducks, and many days just spending quality time…listening to her read to us, playing UNO, drawing (she was an amazing artist) and looking through her photo albums.  This was just a small part of all she did…no wonder I am missing grandma so very much!!!

Here is one of my favorite pictures of my grandma and I…one that I will look at and cherish forever!!
